Google is giving away 2GB data free on Drive till tomorrow: Here’s how to get it

Google has rolled out a set of guidelines and several new features to stay secure online as a part of Safer Internet Day. It is also offering 2GB worth of Google Drive Storage for those who complete security check-up by February 11. Users can take a Security Check-up to manage their Google Account’s security settings by a two-step verification system. The two-step verification requires users

to sign in their accounts using a 6-digit code that is sent to their smartphones. This enables users to add a layer of security that prevents phishing even if their passsword is stolen.

Google also revealed some interesting Search trends which indicate that there is an increasing concern about online safety among Indians. According to the data, there have been 20 per cent more searches for ‘Change Password’ in the last two years. It further highlights that 97 per cent more users have searched for ‘Two-step verification’. 

“We are adding five million new users a month taking the user base of ‘connected’ Indians to 500 millions online by 2018-2019. It’s more important now than ever before to ensure the data and profiles of these users is safe online. Thus Safer Internet Day is a great opportunity to focus on online safety and drive awareness for a better Internet.” said Sunita Mohanty Director, Trust and Safety, Google India.

 In the past year, there were 591 per cent more searches for ‘How to track a lost phone’, the company said. 

Here are five things users can do to stay secure online: 

* Use a strong, unique password made up of a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols 

* Do not reuse the same password for important accounts 

* Set up two-factor authentication, in addition to password 

* Check account recovery information and add a phone number or other contact information 

* Do a Security Checkup at g.co/accountcheckup
